Powering by a Table Look-Up and a Multiplication with Operand Modification
نویسنده
چکیده
An efficient method for generating a power of an operand, i.e., X p for an operand X and a given p, is proposed. It is applicable to ps in the form of ±2 k , where k is any integer and of ±2 1 k ± − 2 2 k , where k1 is any integer and k2 is any nonnegative integer. The reciprocal, the square root, the reciprocal square root, the reciprocal square, the reciprocal cube, and so forth are included. The method is a modification of the piecewise linear approximation. A power of an operand is generated through a table look-up and a multiplication with operand modification. The same accuracy is achieved as the piecewise linear approximation. The multiplication and an addition required for the piecewise linear approximation are replaced by only one double-sized multiplication with a slight modification of the operand and, hence, one clock cycle may be reduced. The required table size is reduced because only one coefficient instead of two has to be stored.

Efficient Initial Approximation for Multiplicative Division and Square Root by a Multiplication with Operand Modification
An efficient initial approximation method for multiplicative division and square root is proposed. It is a modification of the piecewise linear approximation. The modification of the operand requires only a bi...
متن کاملThe Montgomery Powering Ladder
This paper gives a comprehensive analysis of Montgomery powering ladder. Initially developed for fast scalar multiplication on elliptic curves, we extend the scope of Montgomery ladder to any exponentiation in an abelian group. Computationally, the Montgomery ladder has the triple advantage of presenting a Lucas chain structure, of being parallelized, and of sharing a common operand. Furthermor...
متن کاملAn RNS Montgomery Modular Multiplication Algorithm
We present a new RNS modular multiplication for very large operands. The algorithm is based on Montgomery’s method adapted to mixed radix, and is performed using a Residue Number System. By choosing the moduli of the RNS system reasonably large and implementing the system on a ring of fairly simple processors, an effect corresponding to a redundant high-radix implementation is achieved. The alg...
متن کاملOptimization of memory based multiplication for LUT
The multiplier uses LUT’s as memory for their computations. The antisymmetric product coding (APC) and odd-multiple-storage (OMS) techniques were proposed for look-up-table (LUT) design. The APC and OMS techniques used for efficient memory-based multiplication. Therefore the combined approach provides a reduction in LUT size to onefourth of the conventional LUT. APC approach is combined with th...
متن کاملThe operand-order effect in single-digit multiplication: an ERP study of Chinese adults.
Unlike those used in the West, a typical Chinese multiplication table includes only smaller-operand-first entries (e.g., 3 x 7=21, but not 7 x 3=21). Due to this unique feature, multiplication for Chinese subjects has been found to show an operand-order effect. The present study aims to investigate the neural bases of the operand-order effect. Subjects were 20 Mainland Chinese subjects who lear...
